GALES FERRY INTERMODAL

Gales Ferry Intermodal is a division of Cashman Dredging & Marine Contracting Company, LLC, a leading provider of dredging services along the East Coast and in the Caribbean.

The Thames River’s deep-water channel and the site’s 850-foot-long pier, which Cashman rebuilt in 2023, make the site ideal to support the region’s maritime industry.

Cashman Dredging’s interest in creating Gales Ferry Intermodal to acquire the Allyn’s Point property is to provide a support facility for the clean, sustainable energy industry, particularly offshore wind energy. This property, just a few miles north of State Pier in New London, is ideally suited to serve as an operations and maintenance facility for crew and equipment transfers. The property’s proximity to the Montville power plant and high-voltage power lines also makes it ideal as a connection point between offshore wind energy and the power grid.

Before GFI can serve the sustainable energy sector, however, the former Dow Chemical site needs to be prepared for the construction of buildings to house industrial operations. This preparation will involve removing a portion of Allyn’s Hill, where there is significant ledge material. Aggregate of various sizes will be shipped by barge to offshore wind farms to protect wind turbine foundations and to traditional marine construction sites.
